Sports Vacations in Jamaica

Whether you want to learn a sport or just participate heavily in one while on vacation, there are a multitude of various sport vacations that can be arranged and enjoyed in Jamaica. Golf and fishing vacations are common, but other types of sports vacations are also available, including scuba vacations, windsurfing vacations, and kite surfing vacations.

Jamaica Sports Vacations, which is a well established company, can put together a variety of sports vacation packages for you at a reasonable price. Their main focus, however, is on golf, windsurfing, kite surfing, and scuba diving.

For windsurfing, all equipment and lessons are provided. They will take you to beautiful secluded spots for your windsurfing enjoyment, and this division is run by Brian Schurton. Brian was born and raised in Jamaica, and has windsurfed in various locations around the world.

Kite surfing is becoming more and more popular. However, even when booking a kite surfing vacation, the boards are available for rent, but you must typically provide your own kite. Jamaica Sports Vacations offers week long kite surfing clinics as well, so that you can learn how to kite surf. They also have kite surfing packages available.

Scuba vacation packages can be arranged through a variety of companies and resorts. In fact, it is reported that Sandals seems to have the absolute best scuba diving vacation packages, because they bring you to some of the most beautiful dive spots in the world. They also offer lessons, and gear can be rented, or included in the price of your package.

Other than Sandals Resorts, recommended sports vacations accommodations include Bounty Bay, Mutiny Cottage, FDR (Pebbles), and Trelawny Beach. Of these choices, the cheapest accommodations you will find are those at Mutiny Cottage. This is a privately owned cottage with four bedrooms. Here, you will have your windsurfing or kite surfing equipment right outside your room, ready to go.

Bounty Bay is your next best bet, in terms of how close to the windsurfing/kite surfing area that you are. It is right next door to the Mutiny Cottage, and is a privately owned villa which is managed by Jamaica Sports Vacations. Three meals are served each day. There are seven bedrooms available at Bounty Bay, with each room having a private bath.

If you can’t get in at the Cottage or the Villa, your next choice should be Trelawny Beach Resort. Prices here are reasonable, and it is just a five minute walk to the Bounty Bay Villa. If you prefer luxury, however, FDR is the place to go. If you have children, a nanny will be provided so that you can still get out and scuba dive, windsurf or kite surf. FDR is a ten minute walk from Bounty Bay Villa.

Again, you can arrange your Jamaican sports vacation through just about any of the resorts, but for windsurfing and kite surfing, consider Jamaican Sports Vacations, and for scuba diving, consider any of the Sandals resorts.
